IT and ICT

When I have the days with knowing something new, I feel very happy. Hello world, what about you?? I have already discussed about data, information and information management. For this time being I’ll tell you about IT (Information Technology) and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). I was very interested when I learned the topic and I think you guys will also feel exciting about this topic.

IT (Information Technology)

Let me start with the topic IT. Basically, information technology is the use of computers and software to manage information. In other way it is a computer-based tool that people used to work with information and to support the information and information-processing needs of an organization.

The information technology (IT) Architecture and Infrastructure committee oversees data and voice networks, data storage, administrative computing infrastructure, applications, and security issues. The IT Architecture is an organized set of consensus decisions on policies and principles, services and common solutions, standards and guidelines as well as specific vendor products used by IT providers both inside and outside the information technology Branch.

IT Architecture 

The IT Architecture is a blueprint for how future technology acquisitions and deployment will take place. It consists of standard, investment decisions, and product selections for hardware, software and communications. The IT Architecture is developed first and foremost based on department direction and business requirements. Additionally, principles are used rigorously to be sure the IT Architecture is consistent with the department’s information technology beliefs.

In information technology, infrastructure is the physical hardware used to interconnect computers and users. Infrastructure includes the transmission media, including telephone lines, cable television lines, satellites and antennas and as well as the router.

I have also learned about another topic named Globalization. Globalization is the integration and interdependence of economic, social, culture, and ecological facets of life, enable by rapid advances of IT. According to the theory “The world is flat” written by Thomas Friedman, Globalization is divided into three parts.

·         Globalization 1.0 (1492-1800)

·         Globalization 2.0 (1800-2000)

·         Globalization 3.0 (2000- present)

ICT (Information and Communication technology)

The function of ICT is responsible for the development, management and support of the ICT infrastructure within an organization. In other words, ICT consists of IT as well as telecommunication broadcast media, all types of audio and video processing and transmission and network based control and monitoring functions.

ICT are most widely use in Education, Banking, Business and Industry.

Education

Today, most schools and higher educational institutions have computers in the classroom for teacher and students. In education, teachers, students, researchers and school administrators benefits from the usage of ICT.

Banking

The computer is the nerve centre of the banking system around the world. It functions to control the entire banking system that also includes ‘Electronic Banking Services’. Electronic banking provides 24 hour services. The services include: Automated Teller Machine (ATM), Cheque Deposit, Electronic Fund Transfer, Direct Deposit, Pay by phone system, Personal computer banking/ internet banking. In the banking sector, customers, businessman and bank administrator benefits from the usage of ICT.

Industry

Computers are used to facilitate production planning and control systems, to support chain management and to help in product design in the industrial sector. In the industrial sector, workers, researchers and administrator benefits from the usage of ICT.

E-commerce

E-commerce helps in boosting the economy. It makes buying and selling activities easier, more efficient and faster. For this application, computers, Internet and shared software are needed.

In the e-commerce sector, customers, suppliers and employees benefits from the usage of ICT.

All of these things opened my eyes about the role of IT and ICT in our daily life and we can surely use this in order to develop our knowledge as well as our world. I hope you guys will also use IT and ICT in your life in order to develop your capacity in this world of globalization.
